MERKUR Casino UK Acquires The Casino MK in Milton Keynes
This will be MERKUR’s second UK casino, following the launch of its Aberdeen property in 2023.

MERKUR Casino UK has acquired The Casino MK in Milton Keynes, previously operated by Aspers, which shut its doors in April after entering administration. Located in the Xscape leisure complex at Marlborough Gate, the venue is expected to reopen in the coming months.
This will be MERKUR’s second UK casino, following the launch of its Aberdeen property in 2023. The move forms part of the operator’s wider UK expansion strategy and underlines its commitment to the land-based gaming sector. Plans are in place to refurbish the site, create new local jobs, and offer opportunities to former staff members.
The relaunched casino will feature a full range of table games, including blackjack, poker and roulette, as well as a selection of modern slot machines. MERKUR confirmed that upgrades will be carried out to bring the venue in line with its operational standards.
Mark Schertle, Chief Operating Officer of MERKUR Casino UK, commented:
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to bring The Casino MK into the MERKUR family. This venue has played a significant role in the local leisure and entertainment market. Our aim is to get the casino open again as quickly and smoothly as possible, and we are, of course, particularly proud to be bringing more jobs to Milton Keynes, which is also the home of our headquarters.”
He added:
“We see real potential for casino growth across the UK. Our experience in Aberdeen has shown there is a strong appetite for the kind of experience we deliver – a blend of premium gaming, hospitality, and entertainment. We look forward to bringing that same approach to Milton Keynes.”
