GR8_TECH Report Examines Impact Of Brazil’s Betting Ban On iGaming Market

GR8_TECH has released its Operator Lens: Brazil report, examining the impact of Brazil’s nationwide betting ban and the potential implications for operators active in the country and across Latin America.

The report follows the introduction of the ban on 25 September 2026 and assesses areas including licensing and compliance, player behaviour, online visibility, payments and the potential future direction of the Brazilian market.

It also considers the operational requirements facing affected businesses, including shutdown procedures, player refunds, reporting and payments.

Authorities Target Thousands Of Gambling Websites

According to figures cited in the report, Brazilian authorities submitted 16,627 gambling-related websites for blocking between 25 September and 9 October.

Authorities also requested the removal of 3,691 social media and messaging pages, profiles and channels during the period.

GR8_TECH’s report also highlights the scale of unauthorised gambling activity before the ban. Research referenced in the report found that three out of four Brazilian bettors had used an unauthorised betting website at least once during 2025.

The findings raise questions over how player activity could shift following the restrictions and whether bettors will migrate towards unlicensed alternatives.

Sports And Casino Preferences Remain Established

The report examines existing player preferences in Brazil, finding that traditional sports attract 70% of surveyed bettors, compared with 40% showing an interest in esports.

Football remains a central betting vertical, alongside basketball, volleyball, MMA and other sports.

For casino players, slots account for 50% of game preferences. Crash and instant games represent 25%, while live dealer titles account for 24%.

Fortune-themed slots, Aviator, Mines and Plinko are among the games and formats highlighted as familiar choices among Brazilian players.

Mobile usage also remains significant, with mobile devices accounting for approximately 63% of web traffic in Brazil during September 2026.

GR8_TECH noted that while the betting ban restricts the ability of gambling brands to reach players, the country’s established digital and mobile behaviours remain in place.

Three Potential Scenarios For Brazil

The report identifies three possible directions for the Brazilian market: the betting ban remains permanent, the measure is cancelled or amended, or courts suspend some of the restrictions.

GR8_TECH said the uncertainty has implications both for operators that have already invested in Brazil and businesses considering future entry into the market, as well as companies operating elsewhere across Latin America.

The company will also discuss the regulatory changes during The Locker Room: Brazil After the Ban, a private workshop for operators taking place on 29 October.

The session will be led by Yevhen Krazhan, CSO at GR8_TECH, and will focus on potential market scenarios, operational challenges and possible next steps for operators navigating the changes in Brazil.
