Coral-Eclipse Boosted to Record £1 Million Prize – Sandown’s Richest Race Ever

Prize money for the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park on Saturday, 5th July 2025, has been boosted to a record-breaking £1 million—making it the most valuable race ever staged at the iconic racecourse.

The Group One contest, run over a mile and a quarter, is among the most prestigious fixtures in the British Flat racing calendar and consistently attracts a top-class field of three-year-olds and older horses.

As part of the increased investment, the 2025 Coral-Eclipse will also include two wildcard entries for the winners of the Prix du Jockey Club and Prix de Diane, both held in Chantilly, France, in June—further enhancing its appeal to Europe’s elite thoroughbreds.

This significant rise in prize money is the result of an enhanced partnership between Coral and The Jockey Club and reflects their shared ambition to elevate the status of this historic event even further.

First run in 1886, the Coral-Eclipse is Britain’s first major all-aged Group One of the season. It boasts an illustrious roll of honour, featuring greats such as Sea The Stars, Golden Horn and Enable. Most recently, 2024’s winner City Of Troy was crowned the world’s joint-best racehorse in the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.

Coral has sponsored the Eclipse since 1976, making 2025 the 50th running under their banner—a landmark in what is now the longest-standing Group race sponsorship in the world.

Entries for the 2025 Coral-Eclipse will be unveiled on Tuesday, 6th May.

Legendary Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has saddled a record eight Coral-Eclipse winners including City Of Troy in 2024, said:
