Scientific Games Re-Certified Under WLA Responsible Gaming Framework

Scientific Games has once again been re-certified under the World Lottery Association’s (WLA) Responsible Gaming Framework, reaffirming its commitment to player protection and ethical gaming practices.

The accreditation follows an independent international audit that assessed the company’s responsible gaming initiatives across its global operations.

Scientific Games first achieved WLA certification in 2015 for its European operations and has since secured multiple re-certifications. In 2022, the company was awarded global certification after introducing its Healthy Play programme, which equips lotteries with responsible gaming tools, educational resources, and compliance best practices.

Good to know: The WLA framework evaluates various aspects of responsible gaming, including research initiatives, employee training, advertising standards, and engagement with regulatory bodies.

Potential Joint Bid for Italian Lottery Licence

Scientific Games is also linked to a potential joint bid for Italy’s national lottery licence alongside Flutter and private equity firm Brookfield.

While no official confirmation has been given, the proposed partnership would see the company collaborate with Sisal, Flutter’s Italian lottery brand. The bidding process is ongoing, with a deadline of 17 March 2025.

Industry Recognition for Responsible Gaming Efforts

Mélissa Azam, Senior Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for WLA, praised the company’s approach:

"Scientific Games has championed best-in-class integration of responsible gaming research and tools into online platforms. This reflects a thorough understanding of the company's responsibilities as a gaming supplier committed to harm minimisation and ethical gaming practices.”

Scientific Games CEO Pat McHugh reaffirmed the company’s dedication to responsible gaming, stating:

“We are dedicated to advancing our Healthy Play programme so that we can continue to give our lottery customers tools and best practices to strengthen the impact of their responsible gaming efforts by cultivating greater public trust.”

Expanding Global Lottery Presence

Scientific Games continues to grow its influence in the global lottery market, having recently signed a 10-year contract with the New Mexico Lottery and maintaining key partnerships with European operators such as FDJ and Allwyn, the UK’s national lottery licence holder.

With its latest re-certification, Scientific Games remains a leading supplier meeting international responsible gaming standards, as the industry faces increasing regulatory scrutiny over player protection and ethical marketing practices.
