The Derby will be sponsored by Betfred until 2026, with the bookmaker confirming a year extension to their arrangement signed in April, as well as ambitions to back more races over Epsom's flagship two-day event.

Betfred, in collaboration with Epsom's owner, the Jockey Club, acquired the rights to the Oaks and Derby in April, but their new agreement means the meeting will be known as the Betfred Derby Festival, with six races sponsored.

The original agreement, in which they took over as backers of the two Classic races from car retailer Cazoo, was set to last until 2025, and Thursday's announcement marks another major sponsorship for the bookmaker, founded by Fred Done, which has previously sponsored key races such as the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Ebor, Cesarewitch and Cambridgshire.

Amy Starkey, managing director of the Jockey Club, is thrilled to develop ties with Britain's largest independent bookmaker on the high street, which has 1,400 betting shops.

She said:

"Betfred’s support of British racing over many years is clear for all to see and we can’t wait to get cracking with Fred and his team as we look to promote the greatest Flat race in the world in 2024 and beyond.”

Done, who founded the family-owned company in 1967, said the agreement would assist Starkey and the Epsom team "keep the fixture at the forefront of world racing."
