Veikkaus Launches Upgraded Sportsbook Platform with OpenBet Ahead of Finnish Market Reform

Finland’s state-owned betting operator Veikkaus has unveiled its enhanced sports betting platform in collaboration with OpenBet, marking a major milestone as the operator prepares for the country’s regulatory overhaul set for 2027.

The new cloud-based platform is now operational across both Veikkaus’ online betting services and its extensive retail network of over 4,000 point-of-sale terminals.

Designed to deliver an omnichannel experience for Finnish players, the system enhances compliance capabilities while preparing the operator to compete in a more open market environment.

OpenBet, a leading supplier of sportsbook solutions to 21 World Lottery Association (WLA) members worldwide, has provided a modular, cloud-native infrastructure tailored to Veikkaus’ requirements. The platform boasts real-time scalability and includes Managed Trading Services, offering live odds, risk management, and data support across more than 300,000 in-play events each year.

The launch coincides with wider strategic changes at Veikkaus. In April, the company announced new appointments to its Board of Directors, with Charles Cohen and Martti Ala-Härkönen joining to help drive the organisation’s ongoing transformation. Meanwhile, its B2B subsidiary, Fennica Gaming, acquired a domestic games studio, bringing more than 200 titles and 50 employees into its portfolio.

Commenting on the rollout, Jarrko Nordlund, EVP for iCasino and Sports Betting at Veikkaus, said:

“Launching with OpenBet’s platform heralds a new era of sports betting within Finland, taking it to new heights and offering players a modernised experience they will truly appreciate.”

Runa Walia Desai, Chief Customer Experience Officer at OpenBet, added:

“Our technology ensures Veikkaus stays not only compliant, but competitive and future-ready, with a modern platform built for long-term success.”
