As part of their ongoing series, Rappers Try Things, UK rappers Barney Artist and Guvna B made a stop at Mecca Bingo's Dagenham location to take on the iconic British pastime in a bid to break down stereotypes associated with rap culture. The episode, filmed in January 2024, captures the duo embracing a new experience—bingo.

Upon their arrival, Barney and Guvna B were welcomed by Mecca Bingo Dagenham’s team, including Peter Houston and Charlotte Craythorne Allan, who guided them through the various activities available at the venue.

Reflecting on the experience, Guvna B, who is also a presenter, shared:

“As soon as we arrived, we knew we were in for a great night. It was such a fun environment and there was a strong sense of community. The bingo itself was a lot more of an adrenaline rush than we anticipated but thoroughly enjoyable! Special thanks to the staff, the regulars, and everyone else that made our first-ever bingo experience a great one!”

Peter Houston, Assistant Manager at Mecca Dagenham, echoed Guvna B’s positive sentiments, adding:

“It was great to welcome Barney and Guvna into our club and show them what a great value, fun night out bingo can be. They joined us for a traditional bingo session and immediately made friends with some of our regulars. We can’t wait to have them back for one of our special event nights!”

Mecca Bingo has increasingly worked with celebrities and brands to challenge outdated perceptions of bingo in the UK and revitalize the game’s image for modern audiences. Speaking about the impact of working with influencers, Mecca Bingo’s Head of PR and Social Media, Mark Cheevers, noted in a June interview with Trafficology:

“We want to drive salience and consideration for Mecca among UK adults, so it feels really logical to work with a diverse range of influencers... Despite the fairly deeply ingrained stereotypes around bingo, we know our brand does appeal to an increasingly broad range of people."

In related news, Mecca recently announced its Caller of the Year.
