LeBron James Teases Polymarket Partnership
The NBA star has hinted at a collaboration with Polymarket as the prediction market platform continues to expand its presence in professional sport.

LeBron James has teased a potential partnership with Polymarket after sharing a video filmed at the prediction market company's headquarters.
The four-time NBA champion posted a 14-second clip on social media showing him entering Polymarket's offices before making his way towards its sports division. Neither James nor Polymarket has yet disclosed further details about the nature or terms of the apparent collaboration.
Prediction Markets Strengthen Sporting Connections
A partnership with James would represent another high-profile sporting relationship for the prediction markets sector, which has increasingly targeted professional athletes, teams and leagues as it expands its consumer reach.
James would follow Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who earlier this year became a shareholder in rival platform Kalshi and agreed to participate in marketing initiatives and live events. Kalshi said Antetokounmpo's investment would remain passive, while its rules prevent him from trading NBA-related markets.
Polymarket has also developed partnerships across US professional sport, including agreements with Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer and the National Hockey League. Its team partnerships include the New York Yankees and New York Rangers.
The platform has separately expanded its sports offering through agreements with Genius Sports and Sportradar, providing access to official data, live streaming content and integrity services covering multiple competitions.
Polymarket Valuation Reaches $21 Billion
James' social media post comes shortly after Polymarket secured a $21 billion post-money valuation in its latest funding round. According to Bloomberg, the financing is being led by 1789 Capital and is expected to raise approximately $1 billion.
The latest investment follows an earlier financing round that valued Polymarket at $15 billion and comes amid continued growth across the prediction markets sector. Industry data cited by PredScope estimated that prediction markets generated $23.9 billion in monthly trading volume during the first quarter of 2026, with sports and political contracts accounting for a significant proportion of activity.
Competition between Polymarket and Kalshi has also intensified. Kalshi completed a funding round at a reported $22 billion valuation earlier this year, while Bloomberg reported that the platform generated around three times Polymarket's trading volume during July based on user-compiled Dune Analytics figures.
Regulatory Scrutiny Continues
The expansion of sports-focused prediction markets has attracted increasing scrutiny from gambling regulators, particularly in the US where disputes continue over whether sports event contracts should fall under state gambling laws.
Polymarket has also encountered regulatory challenges internationally, including restrictions in parts of Canada and Denmark. The company has challenged measures imposed in France after regulators argued that its services constituted unauthorised gambling.
Despite those regulatory challenges, the potential involvement of one of basketball's most recognisable players would further strengthen Polymarket's connections with professional sport as competition within the prediction markets sector continues to increase.
