Brazil iGaming Revenue Surges Past BRL6 Billion

Brazil’s regulated betting market has continued its strong upward trajectory, with the Federal Revenue Service reporting that iGaming contributed an 86% rise in public tax receipts compared with the same period last year.

The sports betting and online gaming sector has maintained rapid expansion, generating BRL5.89 billion ($1.18 billion) in betting revenue between January and May 2026. This marks a significant increase from BRL3.169 billion ($634 million) recorded during the same months in 2025, representing year-on-year growth of 85.88%.

Officials say the figures underline the sector’s growing economic importance, while also highlighting the need for stronger regulatory focus. Despite ongoing criticism from parts of the executive branch towards betting operators, policymakers are being urged to treat the industry as a serious and sustained contributor to public finances.

Tax authorities argue that revenues could potentially double if unlicensed operators were successfully brought into the regulated framework or effectively blocked, encouraging players to use only authorised platforms.

The data was presented by tax auditors Claudemir Malaquias and Marcelo Gomide during a briefing attended by Revenue Secretary Robinson Barreirinhas.

For the full year 2025, Brazil collected BRL9.95 billion ($1.99 billion) in betting-related tax revenue. However, results from just the first five months of 2026 have already surpassed 60% of that total, signalling an accelerated growth curve.

If current monthly trends continue, total 2026 revenues could exceed BRL14 billion ($2.8 billion), with major sporting events expected to further boost activity. The ongoing World Cup has already intensified engagement, with bettors transferring nearly BRL510 million ($102 million) to betting platforms from the start of the tournament through 25 June, according to data intelligence firm Klavi.

Klavi also reported that more than BRL25 million ($5 million) was wagered during Brazil’s match against Scotland on 24 June alone, reflecting a 35% rise compared with typical daily averages before the tournament began.

Further analysis from Klavi shows average transaction values have increased from around BRL185 to BRL235 ($37–$47), a 24% uplift, indicating higher per-user spend alongside rising participation.
