Brazil’s regulated online betting and gaming market continues to demonstrate strong fiscal momentum, with operators generating BRL1.5bn (US$291.1m) in tax revenue in January, according to figures released by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA).

The total marks a 2,642 per cent increase compared to January last year, which represented the first month of Brazil’s newly regulated online gaming framework. At that time, tax receipts from the sector stood at BRL55m (US$10.7m), highlighting the rapid acceleration in collections as licensing, compliance and enforcement mechanisms have become more established.

The sharp year-on-year growth reflects both the expanding number of authorised operators active in the market and increased player participation following the formalisation of the regulatory regime. Since regulation came into effect, Brazil has moved swiftly to position itself as one of the most significant online gaming markets globally, with tax performance providing a clear indication of scale.

The January figures follow the SPA’s recent confirmation that total online gaming tax revenue across 2025 reached BRL9.95bn (US$1.88bn). Over the same period, gross gaming revenue totalled BRL37bn (US$6.9bn), underscoring the size and commercial potential of the newly structured market.

With regulatory oversight now firmly in place, the latest results suggest that Brazil’s online betting and gaming sector is entering a phase of sustained growth, delivering increasing returns to public finances while establishing a more transparent and accountable operating environment.
