MGM Resorts Advances Sustainability with Major Solar Power Agreement

MGM Resorts International has made a significant leap toward its sustainability goals by signing a 25-year power purchase agreement with Escape Solar. This deal will more than double MGM’s access to clean solar energy, bringing the company closer to its goal of sourcing 100% renewable electricity in North America by 2030.

The agreement focuses on the Escape Solar + Storage project, set to be constructed in Lincoln County, Nevada, with operations expected to begin in early 2026. The project will produce renewable electricity equivalent to powering over 28,000 average U.S. homes annually.

Currently, MGM Resorts powers 90% of its daytime electricity needs at 11 Las Vegas Strip properties with solar energy. This new deal will not only increase that coverage to 100% during the day but also extend solar power into the evening hours, helping illuminate exterior lighting and other energy needs.

Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts, highlighted the significance of the agreement:

"This agreement is the next step toward achieving our climate goals. We remain committed to sourcing 100% of our electricity from renewable sources by 2030 as part of our journey to a more sustainable future."

Jill Daniel, CEO of Estuary Power, praised the collaboration, noting that the Escape Solar project will reduce carbon emissions by nearly 250,000 metric tons annually while also generating economic benefits for Lincoln County, including over 250 construction jobs.

This milestone strengthens MGM Resorts' position as a leader in sustainability within the hospitality and entertainment industry.
