Thailand Unveils Draft Regulations for Integrated Casino Resorts

Thailand has released draft regulations outlining the operation of integrated resorts in the country, with a public comment period open until 18 August. The move follows the House's approval of the draft Entertainment Complex Bill in March, signaling a significant step towards legalizing casinos.

The draft regulations propose 30-year licenses for operators, subject to evaluation every five years, with each renewal period lasting up to 10 years.

The oversight of Thailand's casinos will involve multiple layers of governance. A policy committee and an executive committee, both chaired by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, will facilitate regulation development and ensure a smooth launch process. Daily regulatory responsibilities will fall to a newly established government body, the Comprehensive Entertainment Commission.

Initially, a government committee under the prime minister's purview will manage the project, including key ministers from finance, tourism and sports, social development and human security, commerce, interior, justice, and the commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police.
