The Gambling Commission has fined gaming operator NSUS Limited, doing business as GGPoker.co.uk, £672,829 ($738,763/€760,737) following an inquiry that turned up many social responsibility and anti-money laundering deficiencies, including violations of self-exclusion laws.

In addition to paying the fine, GGPoker also got a formal warning for the mistakes.

The company's failures in terms of social responsibility included failing to recognise or engage with clients who were in danger of suffering gambling-related problems. 125 customers who had self-excluded from receiving marketing emails also received communications from the company.

The regulator also found flaws in the operator's anti-money laundering practices, including a failure to conduct adequate risk assessments of the businesses in the area that could be used to finance terrorism and money laundering and a lack of appropriate policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate these risks.

The Commission's newest regulatory action comes after a spate of others. In September, the regulatory body penalised Betfred's parent company Petfre Limited £2.8 million for social responsibility and anti-money laundering violations and Betway £400,000 for promoting on websites geared toward youngsters.

These penalties were imposed after a spate of four fines or settlements in four weeks between July and August.

Since opening its poker room in Ontario in collaboration with the World Series of Poker at the beginning of the month, GGPoker has a global footprint. The Malta Gaming Authority issued the operator a type 3 gaming services licence.
