Fanatics Secures Licensing Approval for Ontario Online Gambling Market
The sports and betting operator is preparing its first major expansion outside the US after receiving authorization from provincial regulators.

Fanatics has secured an iGaming operator licence from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), clearing the path for its entry into Canada’s largest online gambling market.
A spokesperson for Fanatics confirmed that the company will share further operational and launch details in the coming weeks. The brand currently operates online sports betting across 22 US states alongside Washington, D.C., and offers online casino products in four states. Its expansion into Ontario represents its first major B2C rollout in a fully regulated Canadian market.
Entering an Established Operator Landscape
Upon launch, Fanatics will enter a dense commercial market currently comprising 48 licensed operators managing 83 gaming sites. Recent high-profile entrants to the province include Hard Rock Bet and DAZN Bet, both of which launched over the past six months.
Ontario’s online gaming market generated over $4.2bn in gross gaming revenue during its fourth year of operation. An Ipsos study published in May by iGaming Ontario and the AGCO showed that 91.1 per cent of surveyed online gamblers in the province now use regulated platforms, representing a 7.4 percentage point increase year-on-year.
Market Saturation and Differentiating Strategies
Industry analysts have questioned the remaining capacity for growth among new platforms, with Amanda Brewer, senior vice-president of policy and communications at the Canadian Gaming Association, suggesting the market may already be saturated.
Since everyone operates under the same rules and many offer the same games, success increasingly depends on excellent user experience/app design, and customer service, including rewards, as well as brand engagement, to keep players loyal,” Brewer noted. If new operators believe they have a secret sauce no one else has thought of, I wish them the best of luck!
Despite competitive pressures, an industry source highlighted Ontario's continued appeal to international operators: “Ontario remains a very attractive market because it offers a robust regulatory framework and a commercially attractive environment with a reasonable tax rate.” The source added that Fanatics' entry signals other major operators not yet present in the province may soon follow.
