New York Mobile Sports Betting Revenues Bounce Back in July Despite Volume Dip

New York’s regulated mobile sportsbooks experienced an 83.5 per cent surge in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in July 2026, reaching $214.7m (£168.4m) as operator win margins snapped back following a subdued June.

Data published by the New York State Gaming Commission shows that sportsbooks achieved an overall hold rate of 11.42 per cent for the month—more than doubling June’s 5.19 per cent margin.

The sharp recovery in profitability occurred even as total wagering volume dropped below the $2bn threshold for the first time in 11 months. Total handle for July stood at $1.88bn, representing a 16.7 per cent month-on-month decline driven by the quieter mid-summer sports calendar.

Tax Receipts Surge for New York Education Fund

The rapid recovery in operator margins provided a direct windfall for the state treasury, which levies a headline 51 per cent tax rate on mobile sports wagering receipts.

State tax collections from mobile betting rose to $109.5m (£85.9m) in July, up from $59.6m in June. The $49.9m monthly increase effectively offset the lower tax yields recorded during the early summer wagering slump.
