Mobile sports betting handle in New York State, US, fell below US$2bn for the first time in six months in February.

The total for February stood at $1.98bn, representing a 20.4 per cent decline compared to January’s record-breaking $2.48bn.

However, year-on-year figures show an 11.4 per cent increase from February 2024’s $1.78bn.

Online sports betting revenue in New York for February reached $184.8m, marking a 25.2 per cent drop from January’s record $247m. Despite this, revenue increased 40.6 per cent year-on-year from February 2024’s $131.4m.

For the 2024-25 financial year, both handle and revenue have already surpassed the previous year’s totals, with a month still to go before March 2025’s figures are released.

Between April 2023 and March 2024, New York’s mobile betting handle stood at $19.89bn. The current FY24-25 total, excluding March, has already reached $21.5bn.

Similarly, total mobile sports betting revenue for the previous financial year was $1.78bn, while the current financial year’s figure, ahead of March’s report, is already at $1.98bn.

In other US betting news, Americans are expected to wager $3.1bn on March Madness.
