Ontario iGaming Market Soars with CA$9.46bn June Handle Driven by World Cup Surge
The surge in wagering was buoyed significantly by high player engagement surrounding the FIFA World Cup

Ontario’s regulated online gambling market recorded a strong performance in June, posting CA$9.46bn (£5.36bn) in total wagers—a 30.3 per cent year-on-year increase and the fifth-highest monthly handle since the market launched in April 2022.
Official figures from iGaming Ontario show that non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached CA$400.6m for the month, representing a 30.6 per cent rise compared to the same period last year.
FIFA World Cup Boosts Sports Wagering
Sports betting activity saw a substantial lift, with handle reaching CA$1.03bn—up 34.5 per cent year-on-year and 6 per cent sequentially from May. The surge in wagering was buoyed significantly by high player engagement surrounding the FIFA World Cup. Sportsbook operators generated CA$78.6m in revenue from sports wagers during the month, marking a 34.4 per cent increase compared to June 2025.
Meanwhile, online casino verticals continued to drive the lion's share of overall volume, recording a handle of CA$8.30bn. This represents the third-highest monthly casino handle in the province’s history, trailing only March and May of this year.
Player Engagement and Fiscal Returns
The commercial expansion was mirrored by active player participation across the Canadian province:
Active Player Accounts: 1.32 million (up 30 per cent year-on-year)
Average Revenue Per Account: CA$304
Provincial Tax Collections: CA$80m
The June results highlight the continued maturation of Ontario’s open-market framework, where sustained online casino growth and major sporting events continue to propel record-level betting volumes.
