Brazil’s Federal Audit Court Orders Coordinated Crackdown on Illegal Betting
The initiative is designed to improve coordination between authorities through standardised data-sharing protocols, enabling faster action against unlicensed operators before they can re-establish themselves online.

Brazil’s Federal Audit Court (TCU) has approved new measures aimed at strengthening the fight against illegal betting, including the creation of a permanent task force involving key federal agencies such as the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA/MF), the Central Bank, Anatel, Coaf and the Federal Revenue Service.
The initiative is designed to improve coordination between authorities through standardised data-sharing protocols, enabling faster action against unlicensed operators before they can re-establish themselves online.
Technology will play a central role in the new strategy. The TCU has instructed Anatel and the SPA/MF to expand automated monitoring systems capable of identifying suspicious websites and unauthorised applications. Once detected, illegal platforms could be blocked in near real time, while the Central Bank would simultaneously alert financial institutions.
The ruling also calls for stricter penalties against banks and payment providers that facilitate transactions linked to illegal betting operators, with authorities seeking to recover profits generated through these activities and further disrupt organised crime networks.
In addition, the TCU has recommended reforms to the National Strategy to Combat Corruption and Money Laundering (ENCCLA), including proposals to formalise its legal framework and introduce a dedicated monitoring system aligned with international standards set by organisations such as the OECD and FATF.
