ALGA Launches Women in Gaming and Lotteries Africa Platform to Strengthen Female Leadership

The African Lotteries and Gaming Association (ALGA) has officially launched Women in Gaming and Lotteries Africa (ALGA WGL), a new initiative aimed at strengthening female leadership, expanding mentorship opportunities and increasing representation across Africa’s gaming and lotteries sector.

Announced in mid-April 2026, the platform is designed as a dedicated space for women working across regulation, technology, operations, education and innovation. ALGA noted that while women already play a key role across the industry, many continue to face limited visibility.

In its launch statement, the association said:

“Following growing calls to our CEO, Mr Musa Mngadi, to create a more inclusive and representative space, ALGA has taken a deliberate step forward by establishing a platform where women are not only included, but empowered to shape the narrative of the industry in their own voice.”

The platform will highlight the work of regulators, educators, game developers, innovators and technology professionals who are helping to shape the future of gaming and lotteries across Africa.

ALGA described the initiative as being created “for African women, by African women”, adding that it will support stronger professional networks and greater industry recognition. The organisation also stated: “For those who were not given a seat at the table, this is an opportunity to build your own.”

The launch falls under the theme “From Play to Power: Advancing Women Inclusion Across Africa’s Gaming Value Chain”, positioning the initiative as part of a broader effort to move women from participation to positions of influence.

Expanding women’s leadership

As a pan-African industry body representing regulators, operators, NGOs and academic institutions across markets including Kenya, South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini and Zimbabwe, ALGA continues to place leadership development and governance at the centre of the sector’s future.

The move reflects a wider trend across the African gaming industry, where women-focused leadership platforms are becoming increasingly prominent in both regulatory and strategic discussions.

In November 2025, ALGA board chairperson Sebina Hlapolosa said women were “no longer just contributing in advisory roles; they’re leading regulatory discussions and shaping the sector’s future”. She also highlighted collaboration with Women in Gaming Africa as a key driver of professional development, technical training and stronger industry networks.

The launch of ALGA WGL formalises that direction, providing a structured, continent-wide platform dedicated to strengthening women’s influence across the gaming and lotteries sector.
