Kraken Signals Entry into Prediction Markets, Targeting 2026 Launch

Kraken, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, has indicated it could expand into the rapidly growing prediction markets sector as early as 2026, marking a significant step beyond its core crypto trading operations.

Speaking to CNBC, Kraken’s Global Head of Consumer, Mark Greenberg, confirmed the company is actively exploring prediction markets, describing the move as part of a “broader strategy to offer users more ways to trade information-driven outcomes alongside traditional crypto and tokenised assets.”

Kraken Co-CEO Arjun Sethi has previously highlighted prediction markets as an area the firm intends to enter soon. The latest comments reinforce a likely launch window in 2026, with Kraken positioning the initiative as a natural extension of its existing trading infrastructure and liquidity model.

“Interest in prediction markets has grown sharply in recent months,” said Greenberg.

“We see this as a logical next step, providing our users with innovative ways to engage with event-based trading, while maintaining the high standards and reliability they expect from Kraken.”

The surge in popularity of prediction markets has been fuelled by regulatory acceptance in certain jurisdictions, increased institutional involvement, and heightened public awareness. Platforms offering contracts on events ranging from sports and elections to macroeconomic milestones have experienced rising trading volumes, attracting established crypto firms eager to diversify revenue streams and boost user engagement.

Kraken executives also suggested future opportunities could link prediction markets with other tradable assets.

“Trades could be conditional on specific outcomes, connecting prediction contracts with cryptocurrencies, tokenised equities, or traditional stocks,” explained Greenberg, underscoring the company’s vision for interoperable financial products on a single platform.

While no official launch date has been set, Kraken framed prediction markets as a strategic growth area rather than an experimental addition. If implemented, the initiative would place Kraken among a small but growing cohort of major exchanges integrating event-based trading into mainstream digital finance, further accelerating sector development in 2026.
