Las Vegas Sands Breaks Ground on US$8 Billion Expansion at Marina Bay Sands

Las Vegas Sands has officially commenced construction on a landmark US$8 billion expansion of its Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region’s tourism and entertainment sector.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on 15 July, was attended by Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Las Vegas Sands co-founder Dr Miriam Adelson, marking the start of what is set to be one of the most ambitious hospitality developments in Southeast Asia.
The centrepiece of the project is a new 55-storey hotel tower featuring 570 luxury suites, a rooftop Skyloop combining observatory decks, dining, and exclusive guest experiences, as well as expansive retail, wellness, and leisure amenities. The development will also include a 15,000-seat indoor arena, purpose-built for live entertainment, major sporting events, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) gatherings.
Populous, the global design firm behind The Sphere in Las Vegas and London’s O2 Arena, has been tasked with designing the arena, while Safdie Architects — original designers of Marina Bay Sands — will lead the architectural direction of the tower.
Las Vegas Sands stated the project is a strategic step to elevate Singapore’s global standing as a premier destination for both leisure and business travel.
“This speaks volumes of our confidence in this region,” said Patrick Dumont, President and COO of Las Vegas Sands. “By the time our new ultra-luxury development is complete, we will have invested more than US$15 billion since we started operations in Singapore in 2010.”
Robert Goldstein, Chairman and CEO, added:
“We are proud to carry Sheldon Adelson’s legacy forward with today’s groundbreaking ceremony for our new development here.”
The company’s renewed focus on Singapore comes amid mixed results in other parts of Asia. In Q1 2025, Las Vegas Sands reported a 3.4% year-on-year decline in group-wide revenue to US$2.86 billion, with Macau operations showing continued softness.
