Sir Keir Starmer is set to become the UK’s new prime minister today following his party's decisive victory in the general election. With all votes tallied, Labour secured 400+ seats, significantly surpassing the 326 needed for a majority.
Dugher, who served as a Labour MP from 2010 to 2017, views the election outcome as positive for the industry. He highlights Labour's manifesto commitment to improving standards in responsible gambling and enhancing the UK's industry reputation.
“The BGC had long treated Labour as a government in waiting,” Dugher stated. “We have been working closely with shadow ministers in recent years, on behalf of our members and their millions of customers.
“Our work to drive up standards and champion a world-leading British industry carries on, and we look forward to partnering with Labour – as they have pledged – in this vitally important work.”
