The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has announced that it will introduce a new code of conduct for the betting industry. This will focus on the design of online gambling games and will come into force at the end of September.
The BGC has stated that this new code of conduct will include a minimum game cycle speed of 2.5 seconds, the scrappage of turbo play features where players can speed up games and the removal of multi-slot play. The betting body also wants operators to do more to check in on its customers to identify signs of problem gambling.
The organisation's ambition is to enhance player safety and tackle problem gambling, being a follow on from its Safer Gambling Commitments which were published last year.
Michael Dugher, CEO of the BGC, commented:
“The BGC was set up last year with the aim of leading a race to the top in terms of standards within the regulated betting industry.”
“The new Game Design Code of Conduct is yet another example of our determination to address concerns head on and meet our safer gambling commitments.”
