Michigan Regulator Issues Cease-And-Desist Letters To 33 Gambling Operators

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued cease-and-desist letters to 33 companies it alleges are operating illegal gambling platforms in the state.

The enforcement action covers operators offering online casino, sports betting and sweepstakes products without the required state authorisation.

Brands targeted by the regulator include Azartzona Casino, Basepoker, BingoMania, BitofGold and Cryptoplay, alongside Del Oro Casino, Detective Slots and Donbet.

MGCB Highlights Player Protection Concerns

The MGCB warned that consumers using unlicensed gambling platforms may not receive the same protections available through Michigan’s regulated market, including compliance with self-exclusion requirements.

Henry Williams, executive director of the MGCB, said:

“Choosing to self-exclude is one of the hardest and most courageous decisions a person can make, and in Michigan’s legal market, that choice is respected.

“Offshore sites don’t respect it. They will take a deposit from someone who has asked for help, and the MGCB has no way to help that person get it back.

“These 33 letters put operators on notice that our residents are not an untapped market, and that anyone who thinks they can ignore our protections will hear from us.”

The latest action comes as the MGCB continues enforcement activity across other areas of the gambling sector.

The regulator has also increased its scrutiny of prediction market platforms, with Coinbase agreeing last week to pause its prediction market offering in Michigan.
