Palms To Open New Non-Smoking Casino Space In Las Vegas

Palms Casino Resort is set to expand its smoke-free gaming options with the opening of a new fully enclosed non-smoking slot room on 24 August.

The 7,300-square-foot space will operate 24 hours a day and feature 224 of the casino's newest and most popular slot machines, alongside a full-service bar offering bartop gaming including video poker and keno.

Unlike designated non-smoking sections located within wider casino floors, the new room will be completely separated from areas where smoking is permitted.

Kevin Glass, general manager of Palms, said the development was introduced in response to demand from customers.

“Guest feedback drives so much of what we do, and expanding our non-smoking gaming options is something we’ve heard consistently,” Glass said.

Former Restaurant Converted Into Gaming Space

The new gaming area occupies the former Mabel's BBQ restaurant, which closed last year.

Alongside its 224 slots, the room will feature a dedicated drinks offering including rotating draft beers from local breweries and cocktails unavailable elsewhere at Palms.

The bar will also offer a Bartender's Choice selection featuring three premium bourbons and Scotch flights priced at $10.

“Since Palms was recently recognized as one of the luckiest casinos in the country, we thought we'd make a little more room for the winning to continue,” Glass said.

Palms is owned by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and operates independently from the major casino groups responsible for many of the resorts on the Las Vegas Strip.

Palms Plans Charity Slot Event

The casino will also use the opening to support 10 charities through a $25,000 donation initiative.

On 1 September, Palms will stage its inaugural Spin It Forward Celebrity Charity Slot Challenge, presented by IGT.

Each participating organisation will receive a guaranteed $2,500 donation from the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority.

IGT will additionally provide each charity with $1,000 in slot play. Organisations will be able to either accept the amount or partner with a celebrity participant who can play on their behalf in an attempt to increase the final contribution.

Participating charities include Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, S.A.F.E. House and Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada.

Smoke-Free Gaming Options Expand In Las Vegas

Smoking remains permitted across much of the Las Vegas casino market, although several properties have introduced dedicated smoke-free areas.

Park MGM operates as a completely smoke-free resort, including its casino floor, hotel and bars, while Plaza in downtown Las Vegas has a separate non-smoking gaming room containing approximately 100 slot machines and a selection of table games.

Other casinos offer designated non-smoking sections within their main gaming floors.

The new Palms facility differs by providing an enclosed space separated from smoking areas, allowing the casino to retain smoking across its wider gaming floor while offering customers a dedicated smoke-free alternative.
