Denmark Opens New Licensing Window for Land-Based Casinos
The move marks Spillemyndigheden’s first formal land-based licensing window of the year.

he Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, has officially opened a new licensing window for land-based casino operators seeking to secure new permits or renew existing 10-year licences.
Announced on 3 August 2026, the application period will run until 3 November 2026. The regulator confirmed that all interested parties must submit complete operational and corporate documentation prior to the deadline. The move marks Spillemyndigheden’s first formal land-based licensing window of the year.
Outlining the statutory requirements for prospective applicants, the Spillemyndigheden stated:
The Danish Gambling Authority opens up the issuance of permits for land-based casinos. According to Consolidated Act No. 1182 of 22 September 2025 on gambling, permits can be granted for the establishment and operation of land-based casinos. When deciding whether a license can be granted, the Danish Gambling Authority places emphasis on whether the applicant can be assumed to want to operate the land-based casino in a fully professional and financially sound manner.
Following the initial filing, candidate operators will face a multi-agency vetting procedure. Applications will be subjected to review by local municipal authorities, the regional chief of police, the Ministry of Taxation, and the Ministry of Business and Industry, with input from the Danish Maritime Authority where shipboard or coastal operations are proposed.
Denmark currently hosts seven licensed land-based casinos across key metropolitan and regional hubs, including venues in Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus, Aalborg, Vejle, and Helsingør.
