Western Frontier: Rush Street Interactive Deploys BetRivers as Alberta Opens Commercial iGaming Market

Rush Street Interactive (RSI) has expanded its Canadian operations, officially launching its BetRivers online casino and sports betting platform as Alberta opens its commercial gambling market to private operators.

Eligible players aged 18 and older across the province can now access the operator's casino games and sportsbook via the web portal or through dedicated mobile applications.

The launch cements RSI's broader "casino-first" expansion strategy across Canada. Having entered the market via Ontario in 2022, the operator is replicating its product rollout in Alberta, combining traditional sports wagering with proprietary digital casino games and gamified loyalty systems.

Player Engagement and Regional Marketing

To drive player retention in the newly opened territory, BetRivers is deploying its suite of interactive reward mechanics—including instant-win "Rush Packs", promotional wheel spins, and live slot tournaments.

The provincial debut is backed by a localized marketing push. Fronted by Canadian broadcasting personality and brand ambassador Dan O’Toole, the campaign adopts a Western theme positioning BetRivers as the "new casino in town."

Highlighting the operator's ambitions for the market, Richard Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer at Rush Street Interactive, stated:

We're very excited to bring our award-winning platform and player-first approach to the millions of gaming enthusiasts in the Alberta market.

BetRivers has earned its status as one of Canada's top-rated and most trusted casino apps through App Store ratings and reviews from Ontario players, Schwartz added. “Alberta is the next step in that story, and we're ready to deliver the same best-in-class experience from day one as part of our commitment to making BetRivers the casino destination Canadian players choose first.

Elaborating on the platform's user experience strategy, Brian Sapp, Chief Marketing Officer at Rush Street Interactive, added:

We focus on making every moment more dynamic, entertaining, and rewarding for our players. From the broad range of classic and exclusive games to our easy-to-use platform, we are committed to providing ongoing entertainment and enjoyment.

Alberta’s Commercial iGaming Framework

The commercial launch marks a structural shift in Alberta's gambling landscape. Following midnight authorisation, the province became only the second Canadian jurisdiction after Ontario to dismantle its state lottery online monopoly in favour of an open, regulated commercial market.

Under the framework overseen by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) alongside the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), the market opened with significant commercial interest:

  1. 50 operators officially registered
  2. 58 critical gaming system providers approved
  3. 14 platform providers licensed

Over 15 commercial operators went live alongside the legacy government platform, Play Alberta. BetRivers joins a lineup of international brands entering the province, including FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, bet365, PointsBet, Betway, 888, theScore Bet, Bally’s, Pure Casino Entertainment, and River Cree iGaming.
