Alberta Confirms July 13 Launch for Regulated iGaming Market
Alberta will become the second Canadian province to introduce a commercial online casino and sports betting market, following Ontario, which went live four years ago.

The Canadian province of Alberta has confirmed that its regulated iGaming and sports betting market will officially launch on July 13.
Alberta will become the second Canadian province to introduce a commercial online casino and sports betting market, following Ontario, which went live four years ago.
In a letter to industry stakeholders, Dale Nally stated that player protection and social responsibility will sit at the core of the province’s iGaming framework.
At launch, players will have access to system-wide self-exclusion, as well as financial and time-based limit tools. Licensed operators will also be required to provide activity statements and intervene where signs of problem gambling are identified. In addition, all operators must integrate with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commissioncentralised self-exclusion system.
“Alberta remains committed to building a safe, responsible, and well-regulated online gaming market, and we look forward to beginning our partnership with you on July 13,” said Nally.
The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission began accepting registration applications from operators and service providers in January, following amendments to the Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Regulation (GLCR), which clarified the requirements for market entry.
Temporary transition measures have also been introduced to support unregulated “grey” operators ahead of the regulated launch, with all such activity set to end by July 13. The AGLC may grant extensions of up to three months (until October 13) on a case-by-case basis, where operators can demonstrate a credible path to compliance.
The newly established Alberta iGaming Corporation is continuing to work with operators that have signed non-disclosure agreements on draft operating frameworks. Final policies and agreements are expected to be made available by April 15 to participating operators.
“The launch of a regulated iGaming market is an exciting chapter for our province, and I am confident that we can work together to build a market that is both competitive and socially responsible,” Nally added. “Alberta’s future in iGaming is bright, and, with your partnership, we will ensure it is a success for everyone.”
The Canadian Gaming Association also welcomed the announcement, stating: “On behalf of the board of directors and members, the Canadian Gaming Association extends congratulations to the Government of Alberta, AGLC, AiGC, and the Honourable Dale Nally on announcing the launch date for Alberta’s iGaming market, scheduled for July 13, 2026.
“We commend your commitment to prioritising player protection and implementing robust regulatory standards to ensure a safe market environment.”
At present, PlayAlberta remains the province’s only licensed iGaming site, operated by NeoPollard Interactive under the direction of the AGLC.
Earlier this month, the AGLC revealed that 55 operators have so far applied for licences in the province.
