Brazil Accounts for 30% of Global Sports Betting App Downloads in H2 2025

Brazil accounted for 34.3 million sports betting app downloads between July and December 2025, representing almost one-third of all global downloads during the period, according to findings from the State of Mobile 2026 report.

The report shows that sports betting apps recorded a total of 115.4 million downloads worldwide in the second half of 2025, underlining Brazil’s outsized influence on global growth during the market’s first year of regulation.

The surge closely aligns with the formal launch of Brazil’s regulated betting framework on 1 January 2025. Under the new rules, operators are required to pay a R$30 million licensing fee and operate under the “bet.br” domain. More than 80 operators have now been authorised by the Ministry of Finance, creating a competitive and highly visible digital betting ecosystem.

Betting apps dominate Brazil’s sports rankings

The data highlights how betting platforms have reshaped Brazil’s sports app landscape. Six of the ten most downloaded sports apps in the country during 2025 fell within the sports betting and casino category, with Betano emerging as the most downloaded sports app overall.

By contrast, betting apps remain absent from the global top ten sports app rankings, where news, statistics and live-score platforms continue to dominate. This divergence underlines how Brazil’s regulatory shift created a unique market environment in which betting apps rapidly became central to sports-related mobile usage.

Globally, sports betting apps generated 189.4 million downloads across the full year of 2025, representing a 34% increase year on year. Analysts attributed much of that growth to newly regulated markets, with Brazil identified as the standout contributor.

Regulation as a growth catalyst

The report describes sports betting and casino apps as the primary driver of growth in the sports app category, noting that regulatory clarity has been key to unlocking adoption in emerging markets.

While no financial or demographic breakdowns were provided for Brazil specifically, the scale and speed of adoption point to exceptionally strong consumer demand following regulation.

Brazil’s experience suggests that a combination of legal certainty, mobile-first consumer behaviour and strong brand competition can produce one of the fastest betting app adoption curves seen globally. As the market matures, Brazil is expected to remain a central pillar of worldwide growth in regulated online betting.
