Clarion Gaming and Microsoft Launch £15,000 ICE Innovators Challenge to Drive Safer Gambling
The competition invites companies to submit AI-driven concepts that can positively impact the responsible gaming sector.

Clarion Gaming has announced a new partnership with Microsoft to launch the ICE Innovators Challenge, giving gambling operators and their partners the chance to win £15,000 at ICE Barcelona 2026 to develop pioneering ideas that advance safer gambling through artificial intelligence.
The competition invites companies to submit AI-driven concepts that can positively impact the responsible gaming sector. Following an online entry phase, five finalists will be selected to refine their ideas with support from Microsoft and its partner network, including specialist tech consultancies. These finalists will then present their solutions live on the main stage at ICE Barcelona, competing for funding, visibility, and long-term development support to help bring their innovations to market.
Will Harding, Clarion’s Head of Emerging Technology and Esports, explained:
“At-risk bettors are now navigating a world of hyper-personalised experiences, both in gameplay and in targeted marketing. This evolution places an even greater responsibility on the industry to harness these same technologies in innovative ways that actively protect vulnerable players. By providing participants with exclusive access to its technology, Microsoft is empowering them to push creative boundaries and develop practical solutions that can make a meaningful difference.”
The ICE Innovators Challenge will be judged by a panel of Microsoft executives, investors, and safer gambling experts, reflecting a shared commitment to driving ethical and impactful technological progress across the industry.
Iulia-Andreea Bolea, UK iGaming Territory Lead at Microsoft, added:
“Our ambition for the industry is to empower the next generation of frontier firms by harnessing the transformative capabilities of AI and improving online safety for all. Through intelligent automation, skill development, and ethical innovation, we aim to help organisations reimagine their business processes and unlock new opportunities for growth and resilience with player safety at the forefront.
“As a coach and ideation partner, we are committed to a people-first approach, growing AI futureproof skills, fostering creativity and collaboration, and driving responsible AI adoption. We look forward to seeing the winning hackathon solutions evolve into scalable applications that make a meaningful contribution to the industry’s commitment to player protection.”
The initiative marks a significant milestone for ICE Barcelona 2026, reinforcing the event’s role as a global hub for innovation and responsible progress in the gambling industry.
