Brazil Joins Macolin Convention as Regulated Sports Betting Market Expands
The international convention provides a framework for cooperation between public authorities, sports organisations, betting operators and competition organisers to detect and prevent manipulation.

Brazil has confirmed it will join the Macolin Convention in a move designed to strengthen its fight against match-fixing and sporting manipulation, as the country’s regulated sports betting sector continues to grow.
The international convention provides a framework for cooperation between public authorities, sports organisations, betting operators and competition organisers to detect and prevent manipulation.
The decision was supported by Brazil’s Ministries of Sport, Finance, and Justice and Public Security.
“The Lula government is committed to ensuring that Brazilians feel protected and have confidence in our system of monitoring sports betting,” said Minister of Sport André Fufuca. “This decision demonstrates that we are attentive and fulfilling our responsibilities. We will not allow the online betting environment to be taken over by illegal operators. We work tirelessly to combat match-fixing and to guarantee the integrity of sporting competitions.”
Giovanni Rocco, Brazil’s National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development, underlined the importance of the move:
“Brazil’s accession to the Macolin Convention is strategic because match-fixing is a transnational crime. This cooperation, the exchange of intelligence data, especially regarding information sharing, is very important.
