Playtech Transfers German HappyBet Franchise to NetX Amid Strategic Realignment
Under the agreement, NetX gains the option to negotiate terms with existing franchise partners within the HappyBet network, pending regulatory approval.

Playtech has confirmed the transfer of its German HappyBet franchise operations to NetX Betting Ltd, a subsidiary of the Frankfurt-listed operator pferdewetten.de AG.
Under the agreement, NetX gains the option to negotiate terms with existing franchise partners within the HappyBet network, pending regulatory approval. Additionally, pferdewetten.de will assume ownership of selected hardware used across HappyBet’s retail betting shops in Germany.
A transitional period is now underway to facilitate partner negotiations and complete licensing procedures with the relevant German authorities.
Playtech stated:
“Any HappyBet assets not assumed by pferdewetten.de will cease operations and be wound up.”
This development closely follows Playtech’s €2.3bn (£2bn) sale of its Italian business, Snaitech, to Flutter Entertainment—a move that underscores Playtech’s strategic shift towards B2B operations. The group plans to return €1.8bn (£1.54bn) to shareholders via a special dividend next month.
Despite regulatory headwinds in Latin America—particularly due to ongoing changes in Brazil and a temporary VAT charge in Colombia—Playtech reported a steady start to 2025. Trading from January through April met expectations, driven by strong growth in Live Casino and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) segments, especially in the US and Mexico.
The HappyBet retail network has operated under Playtech’s ownership since the 2021 acquisition of the brand.
