Allwyn Introduces Direct Bank Transfers for National Lottery Retail Prizes

Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, has launched a new payment option allowing players who purchase tickets in shops to have their winnings paid directly into their bank accounts for the first time.

In partnership with payments provider Bottomline, Allwyn has developed a fast and simple online claims process for retail prizes ranging from £500.01 to £50,000—ensuring quicker payouts than ever before.

This upgrade follows the Post Office’s decision in 2024 to stop processing mid-tier National Lottery prizes, prompting Allwyn to revamp the claims system. Since taking over as operator, the company has already directly paid out over 45,000 prizes, totaling more than £50 million.

Beyond benefiting winners, the new system also reduces administrative and postage costs, eliminating the need for thousands of cheques. The savings will allow more funds to be directed towards National Lottery-funded Good Causes

How It Works:

  1. Players visit claims.national-lottery.co.uk, enter their email, and complete a simple claim form.
  2. They upload a photo of their winning ticket.
  3. Once the claim is processed, they receive a secure link to submit their bank details.
  4. The system verifies that the bank account name matches the claim form name.
  5. Once confirmed, the prize is paid directly into their account within 24 hours.

For those who prefer, the traditional cheque payment option remains available.

Jenny Blogg, Operations Director at Allwyn, highlighted the impact of the new system:

"We’re delighted to introduce this completely new payment solution, which will see, for the first time, people who play The National Lottery in shops be able to have their prizes paid directly into their bank accounts.

Not only will this see these prizes paid faster than ever before, but it also drastically cuts down on administration and postage costs. This cost efficiency will see more money going to the Good Causes that The National Lottery supports and see prize money in players’ pockets in record time – so it really is a win-win."

With this latest enhancement, National Lottery players can enjoy faster payouts, greater convenience, and a streamlined process—all while supporting vital community initiatives.
