Zoë Osmond, Chief Executive of GambleAware, has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2025 New Year Honours List, as announced by King Charles III. This prestigious recognition highlights her outstanding contributions to tackling and addressing gambling-related harms and addiction across Great Britain.

Leadership in Tackling Gambling Harms

Since taking on the role of CEO at GambleAware in 2021, Osmond has driven transformative initiatives aimed at reducing gambling harms on a national scale. Under her stewardship, the charity has introduced a new national strategy prioritising prevention, education, and early intervention. Central to this strategy is the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN), which takes an innovative approach to gambling addiction treatment.

The NGSN incorporates risk identification, community education, and specialist training for stakeholders, enabling them to better recognise and address gambling harms. A key feature of the programme has been its close collaboration with individuals who have lived experience of gambling addiction. Their insights have not only guided GambleAware’s initiatives but also played a crucial role in shaping the Gambling Review’s White Paper by providing evidence to MPs, researchers, and policymakers.

A Dedication to Collaboration and Change

On receiving the honour, Osmond expressed her gratitude to the organisations and stakeholders who have supported GambleAware’s mission. In her statement, she underlined the collective effort required to combat gambling harms:

“I am deeply humbled and honoured to receive this OBE. This is recognition of the tireless efforts of the whole team at GambleAware, our partners, and the wider lived experience community who have shared their personal stories and insights with the hope of reducing gambling-related harm across Great Britain.”

Osmond’s focus on fostering partnerships and community engagement has been pivotal in GambleAware’s progress. The charity’s initiatives have extended their reach into local communities, using education campaigns, research, and accessible support networks to address gambling harms effectively.

Looking Ahead

Reflecting on her achievements and the ongoing work of GambleAware, Osmond emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration in driving meaningful change:

“I am privileged to lead an organisation that is committed to supporting those affected by gambling harms, raising awareness, and driving meaningful change. As we enter a new year, we must continue to work together, strengthen our efforts, and ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the help and support they need.”

Osmond dedicated the award to those affected by gambling harms, commending their resilience and courage:

“I dedicate this award to those who have been affected by gambling harms, whose resilience continues to inspire us every day, and to all the individuals and organisations working alongside us to prevent gambling harm.”

A Vision for the Future

Zoë Osmond’s OBE not only recognises her personal contributions but also highlights the vital work being done by GambleAware and its partners to combat gambling harms. As the charity continues its efforts to raise awareness and provide support, this recognition underscores the importance of addressing gambling-related challenges with compassion, innovation, and collaboration.
