The Grand National has once again claimed the title of the world's most popular betting event, surpassing even the Super Bowl and the Euro 2024 final, according to data from Entain. The iconic race’s enduring appeal among casual bettors was underscored by the fact that 82% of UK bets were £5 or less, with less than 1% exceeding £20.

While the Grand National led overall, Euro 2024 dominated betting volume, with England matches accounting for half of the top ten events. Spain’s victory over England in the final ranked third in total bets. The Super Bowl followed as the second-most popular event and was one of only two non-soccer events in the top ten, the other being the US Masters, which placed sixth.

NFL fixtures featured prominently in the rankings, making up 22% of the top 50 betting events, led by the Super Bowl. Notably, no Premier League fixtures appeared in the top 50, with the FA Cup being the only domestic UK competition represented.

Other notable entries included the Cheltenham Gold Cup (16th), Scottish Grand National (34th), and the high-profile boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul (36th).

Greg Ferris, Managing Director of Sports at Entain, commented:

“Watched by hundreds of millions of people worldwide, the Grand National’s popularity and ability to capture the attention of casual bettors remains undisputed. However, it was the Euros that truly captured the imagination of viewers this year, with England games proving a massive draw for recreational betting.”
