Betway has announced its exit from Brazil, just months before the country’s gambling market is set for regulatory rollout in January.
Advising customers to withdraw their remaining balances, the operator provided minimal details regarding its sudden departure. Betway’s statement to users, as cited by SBC Noticias, read:
“Dear Betway customers, unfortunately we have decided that we will not continue in the process to acquire the regulated licence offered in the country. We will work with you to return any outstanding balance. If you have an account that you would like to talk about, contact us by email and include your usernames.”
The decision comes despite Betway having already received approval from Brazil’s Ministry of Finance and authorization to operate in the country until the end of this year, even without a formal license.
Betway is one of many companies vying for a share of Brazil’s anticipated lucrative market, expected to become one of the largest global gambling hubs.
Notably, Betway's recent market exit in Brazil follows its swift withdrawal from Sweden, where it departed despite holding a license valid until 2029.
The impact of Betway’s exit on Super Group’s finances remains uncertain, though similar past actions have had minimal impact on the Group's overall performance. Following Betway’s exit from the U.S., Super Group’s revenues reached record highs in Q2, suggesting continued resilience amidst strategic market shifts.
