LGCB Sends Cease-and-Desist Order to Offshore Operator Bovada
Dated August 6, 2024, the letter demands that Bovada immediately halt its online gambling activities within Louisiana, covering sports betting, iGaming, and other gambling services

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) has taken a firm stance against Bovada, an offshore gambling operator based in Curaçao, by issuing a cease-and-desist order. Dated August 6, 2024, the letter demands that Bovada immediately halt its online gambling activities within Louisiana, covering sports betting, iGaming, and other gambling services. Despite the order, Bovada has not yet acknowledged its receipt as of August 30.
LGCB Chairman Chris Hebert emphasized that Bovada is in clear violation of Louisiana’s gaming laws, as it continues to allow residents or individuals within the state to place wagers. He pointed to similar actions by other states, including Michigan and Connecticut, which have successfully pushed Bovada out of their markets. Hebert expressed optimism that Louisiana would soon be added to this list, urging federal involvement to combat illegal offshore operators.
Owned by Harp Media, Bovada has already restricted access in 11 states across the U.S., including Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Colorado, and Ohio. While Louisiana is not currently among the restricted states, increasing pressure could force Bovada to halt its services there in the near future.
