BetStop Reports: June Self-Exclusion Figures Reach 25,000 in Australia

BetStop, the national self-exclusion register in Australia, has unveiled new data regarding the number of individuals who registered in June.

According to the report, by the end of June 2024, a total of 25,972 people had opted to self-exclude from all licensed online and mobile wagering providers in Australia.

As of June 30, 2024, 21,381 of these individuals were actively excluded, while 4,591 had either completed their exclusion periods or had canceled their exclusions prematurely.

The registrations varied across states and territories, with New South Wales leading with 8,055 registrations, followed by Victoria with 7,020, and Queensland with 5,236.

Other states and territories had significantly fewer registrations.

In June alone, 1,590 new individuals joined the register, representing a 7.3% decrease compared to May 2024, and a 10.7% decrease compared to April 2024.

Notably, 48% of those who registered were aged 30 years or younger.

Launched by the Australian Government in August 2023, BetStop is part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing problem gambling and related harm in the country.

The register, which mirrors similar practices in countries with established gambling markets, was a recommendation from a national consumer protection framework.

BetStop allows individuals to self-exclude for free, with exclusion periods ranging from three months to a lifetime.

For context, in November 2023, the national self-exclusion register had 13,608 registrants, indicating that the number of users has nearly doubled over the past seven months.
