Victoria Introduces New Laws to Protect Gamblers
Each Australian state and territory has its own laws governing gambling.

The Australian state of Victoria has passed new legislation to safeguard gamblers from the detrimental impacts of gaming. This is due to a recent investigation that revealed Crown Resorts and Star Entertainment Group, two of Australia's largest gaming corporations, have violated the nation's gambling rules.
Each Australian state and territory has its own laws governing gambling.
The new regulations must be followed by Victoria residents, as well as businesses regulated in Victoria that provide interactive wagering and betting services to anybody, including clients from other states.
The aim is to protect gambling customers and minimise the effects of harmful gambling by introducing things such as monthly statements. Customers can ask for statements to track their transactions, which helps them become more conscious of their gaming activity. Customers will be able to request information about all transactions made on their betting accounts, and the gaming company is required to comply.
Additionally, it strengthens customers' power to reject direct marketing and requires staff members to complete annual training on responsible gambling. A copy of the staff training records must be made available upon request to the Victoria Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) for a minimum of seven years.
By the end of July, the new regulations will be gradually implemented. However, it is anticipated that all rules will be in place and enforced by the end of June 2023.
This is done in the hopes that the new regulations will make online gaming clients feel safer and lower the risk of harmful gambling behaviour.
