Michigan Online Betting Revenue Falls Month-on-Month in April

Michigan Online Betting Revenue Falls Month-on-Month in April

Online sports betting and igaming revenue in Michigan, US, declined on a month-on-month basis in April, according to figures released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

The regulator reported combined gross online gaming revenue of US$371 million for April, broadly flat compared with March.

However, adjusted gross receipts (AGR) showed a decline across both verticals. Igaming AGR fell 5.8% to $291.2 million, while sports betting AGR dropped 25.2% to $24.5 million, bringing total AGR for the month to $315.6 million.

Mixed Year-on-Year Performance

Despite the monthly declines, overall adjusted gross revenue increased 24.9% year-on-year. However, online sports betting AGR fell 8.7% compared with the same period last year.

Online betting handle in Michigan also decreased by 5% month-on-month to $460.8 million.

Breakdown of Revenue and Tax Contribution

Of the total $371 million gross revenue reported for April, igaming accounted for $303.4 million, while sports betting generated $67.6 million.

Tax contributions from online betting and gaming in the state reached $63.2 million for April. This included $60.7 million from igaming and $2.5 million from sports betting.

Context From Previous Month

The April results follow a record month for igaming in Michigan in March, highlighting a slowdown in performance across parts of the state’s online betting market.
