Merkur Group Completes Acquisition of Gaming Arts to Drive US Expansion

Merkur Group has finalised its acquisition of Gaming Arts, marking a significant step in its strategy to re-enter and expand within the US iGaming market.

The deal, completed on 15 September, also received approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission and signals Merkur’s return to a jurisdiction where it previously held a supplier licence.

Dominik Raasch, Management Board Member at Merkur Games, said:

“The acquisition is a key element of our re?entry strategy into the US market, one of the most respected and strictly regulated gaming markets worldwide.

“With Gaming Arts, we are now able to place Merkur products directly in a wide range of US jurisdictions. This marks an important step in expanding our international growth beyond European borders.”

Under the terms of the acquisition, Gaming Arts’ portfolio – including slot machines, bingo, keno and other gaming products – will now operate under the Merkur Group umbrella. Gaming Arts holds licences across more than 155 jurisdictions worldwide, spanning North America, Latin America and Canada.

The two companies first joined forces in 2023, when Merkur and Gaming Arts announced a collaboration to develop and supply casino games across North America.

Robert Ziems, CEO of Gaming Arts, commented:

“This partnership elevates everything we’re doing at Gaming Arts. With Merkur’s global reach and resources behind us, we are positioned to deliver bold innovation and world-class execution like never before. We’re energised, aligned and ready to write the next great chapter in this company’s story.”

Historically, Merkur has concentrated on European markets, with a strong presence in Germany, the UK, Spain, Serbia, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. The group first secured a Nevada licence in 1998, but exited the US market in the early 2000s.

Elsewhere in North America, Merkur subsidiary Edict Gaming recently secured approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) to distribute online games in the Canadian province.

Lars Felderhoff, Chair of the Management Board of Merkur Group, added:

“This facilitates exciting growth opportunities in North America, strengthens synergies within Merkur Group, and contributes meaningfully to our global expansion.”
