Mauritius Horse Racing Receives Boost as Six Trainers Licensed Ahead of 2025 Season

Horse racing in Mauritius is poised for a major revival after the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) approved licences for six trainers ahead of the new season. The announcement, made jointly by the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) and the Jockey Club, follows a recent board meeting and signals renewed momentum for the sport at Champ de Mars Racecourse.

With the 2025 racing season set to get underway, there is growing excitement among fans and professionals. The MTC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a vibrant and transparent racing environment.

“As we move closer to the official reopening of the 2025 racing season, the MTC reiterates its full support for a fair, dynamic and well regulated racing environment,” the club stated.

The move not only restores confidence in the sport but also underscores the GRA’s ongoing focus on integrity and oversight within the industry.

Seven Applications Still Under Consideration

The six newly licensed trainers — Ramapatee Gujadhur, Subiraj Gujadhur, Vincent Allet, Preetam Daby, Vicky Ruhee, and Carl Hewitson — have met stringent regulatory standards, including submitting detailed documentation and verifying the source of their funds.

However, seven additional trainer applications are still under review. The MTC has indicated that decisions on these pending cases are expected soon.

As the island nation prepares to welcome back competitive racing, authorities are working together to ensure the 2025 season is conducted to the highest standards, laying the groundwork for a strong and sustainable future for the sport in Mauritius.
