Gambling Commission Seeks Clarity on Deposit Limits
As part of the government’s white paper on gambling reform, the regulator intends to address potential confusion surrounding explicit deposit limits and some operators’ use of “net” deposit limits.

The Great British Gambling Commission has launched a consultation aimed at providing consumers with “consistency and clarity” regarding deposit limits.
As part of the government’s white paper on gambling reform, the regulator intends to address potential confusion surrounding explicit deposit limits and some operators’ use of “net” deposit limits.
Net deposit limits factor in withdrawals, meaning that if a player deposits £20 but later withdraws £10, their new deposit limit becomes £30.
The Gambling Commission acknowledged the issue, stating:
“This can be confusing for customers, especially if the descriptions for the different types of limit are similar.”
The consultation, which runs until 30 April, aims to clarify how deposit limits are defined and communicated to customers.
