Stake Secures Alberta Licence Ahead Of Canadian Expansion
Stake Canada has secured an Alberta gaming licence as the operator prepares to enter the province’s regulated iGaming market, subject to completing an agreement with the AiGC.

Stake Canada Ltd. has secured a licence from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) ahead of its planned launch in the province’s regulated online gaming market.
The approval marks a further expansion of Stake’s regulated-market operations, with the operator already active across markets in Europe and Latin America.
Subject to executing an Operating Agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), Stake Canada expects to become fully operational in Alberta on 12 October 2026.
Alberta Becomes Latest Regulated Market For Stake
Stake launched in 2017 and has since expanded its online casino and sportsbook operations internationally.
The operator currently has regulated operations in Italy and Denmark in Europe, alongside Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Argentina in Latin America.
Kris Abbott, country manager at Stake Canada, said:
“Stake has built one of the world's most recognizable brands in online gaming by doing things differently. We move faster, we build bigger and we create an entertainment experience that genuinely shapes internet and sports culture.
“Our planned entry into Alberta represents an exciting milestone step for us in Canada – we are not here to blend in. We are here to raise the bar and bring the distinctive Stake experience to Alberta’s highly engaged player audience.”
Stake said its approach in Alberta will combine its existing technology and international operations with a locally licensed offering tailored to the province.
Stake Highlights Compliance And Player Protection
Stake Canada said its Alberta operations will be subject to AGLC standards and will include responsible gaming and player protection measures.
Birgitte Sand, board member at Stake Canada, said:
“Stake Canada’s approach to regulated market-entry is grounded in preparation, accountability and a long-term commitment to compliance.
“Securing licensing in Alberta provides a strong foundation for the company’s development in Canada and reflects the importance we place on meeting local standards and player safety. We commend the Alberta government, the AGLC and the AiGC for their work to establish Alberta’s regulated iGaming framework.”
Stake has developed its wider brand through online casino and sports betting alongside sports, entertainment and creator partnerships.
The company’s Alberta launch remains subject to the completion of an Operating Agreement with the AiGC.
