Entain To Leave FTSE 100 Following Sharp Share Price Decline

Entain will leave the FTSE 100 later this month following a significant decline in its market capitalisation, ending the gambling group's six-year spell on London's benchmark share index.

FTSE Russell confirmed that Entain and housebuilder Persimmon will be removed from the FTSE 100 following the close of trading on 18 September. Both companies will enter the FTSE 250 on 21 September, with EasyJet and Ithaca Energy moving in the opposite direction.

Entain Shares Down More Than 75% From Peak

Entain entered the FTSE 100 in June 2020, during a period in which its share price increased rapidly. The company's stock climbed from around £7.60 to £18 within a year before reaching a peak of £21.56 in October 2021.

Shares have since fallen to approximately £5.23, representing a decline of more than 75% from that high. The fall in valuation has left Entain with the lowest market capitalisation among current FTSE 100 constituents ahead of the September reshuffle.

The company's share price came under further pressure at the end of July after BetMGM, its joint venture with MGM Resorts International, said it expected full-year net revenue and adjusted EBITDA to finish towards the lower end of its previous guidance ranges.

FTSE Exit Follows Positive First-Half Results

Entain's relegation from the index comes despite the company reporting better-than-expected results for the first half of 2026.

Net gaming revenue increased by 5% on a constant-currency basis to £2.55 billion, with the group benefiting from increased customer engagement during the early stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Chief Financial Officer Michael Snape also said Entain was gaining market share in the UK as smaller and mid-sized operators faced greater pressure from the increase in Remote Gaming Duty from 21% to 40%.

Despite the improved first-half performance, the decline in Entain's market valuation has resulted in the company falling below the threshold required to retain its position in the FTSE 100. Its move into the FTSE 250 will become effective from 21 September.
