PAGCOR App To Promote Licensed iGaming Operators

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is preparing to launch a new app designed to help users identify licensed online gaming operators and reduce access to illegal gambling sites.

The app is scheduled to launch by the end of the year. PAGCOR chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco said it would make it “easier” for players to use regulated operators.

Tengco announced the plans during PAGCOR’s budget hearing before members of the House Committee on Appropriations on Monday, 24 August.

Around 50 percent of online gaming sites accessed in the Philippines are illegal, and keeping players within the regulated sector has been an ongoing challenge for PAGCOR and our law enforcement partners, Tengco said.

For those who patronise online gaming, we encourage them to use the PAGCOR App. The easier it is for them to identify where they can legally play, the better we can protect them from illegal operators and the risks that come with unregulated gaming.

PAGCOR Focuses On Regulated Market

The app forms part of PAGCOR’s wider approach to developing the Philippines’ online gaming market while maintaining regulatory controls.

Speaking at the Light & Wonder iGaming Symposium at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City, Tengco said he supported tighter regulation but opposed a complete ban on online gaming.

Tengco said: We support stricter regulations to protect our people, but we are against a total ban which will only drive players to illegal operators and result in loss of revenues and jobs.

He added: With responsible growth, compliance and transparency, the Philippines can develop a safer, stronger and globally competitive igaming industry.

The latest quarterly figures show that iGaming generated PHP39.85bn ($650.8m) in revenue in the Philippines.
