White House Plans Meeting With Crypto And Prediction Market Executives

The White House is reportedly preparing to host executives from the cryptocurrency and prediction market industries on Wednesday, 19 August, as both sectors attract growing attention from US policymakers.

Representatives from traditional finance could also attend the meeting, although the final list of participants has yet to be confirmed.

President Donald Trump may be present at the gathering, according to reports, but his participation has not been officially confirmed.

Prediction Markets On Washington Agenda

The meeting comes as cryptocurrency and prediction markets become increasingly prominent areas of regulatory discussion in Washington, with regulators appointed by Trump adopting a more innovation-friendly approach towards the two sectors.

Its timing is also significant, taking place one day before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) holds the inaugural meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee on Thursday, 20 August.

The committee brings together executives from cryptocurrency, prediction market, gambling and traditional finance businesses, with discussions expected to cover the regulation of crypto assets, artificial intelligence and prediction markets.

The two meetings will place emerging financial markets firmly on the agenda in Washington this week as policymakers consider how existing regulatory structures should apply to rapidly developing products.

Crypto Sector Awaits Clarity Act Progress

The White House gathering also comes as the cryptocurrency industry pushes for progress on the Clarity Act, a wide-ranging digital asset market structure bill currently before the Senate.

Lawmakers departed Washington for the August recess without completing consideration of the legislation, delaying further progress until Congress reconvenes.

The Senate is expected to resume consideration of the bill after lawmakers return to Capitol Hill in September.

With the reported White House meeting followed by the CFTC's Innovation Advisory Committee gathering the following day, regulatory policy surrounding cryptocurrency and prediction markets is set to remain a prominent topic in Washington.
