Portugal’s Online Gambling Market Tops €323m as Casino Growth Drives Q1 Revenue Surge
Fresh figures published by Portugal’s Gambling Regulation and Inspection Service (SRIJ) show that online gross gaming revenue reached €323.7m during Q1, representing a 13.7% increase from the €284.7m generated in the same period last year.

Portugal’s regulated online gambling market continued its upward trajectory in the first quarter of 2026, with operator revenue rising by almost 14% year-on-year to remain above the €300m mark for a second consecutive quarter.
Fresh figures published by Portugal’s Gambling Regulation and Inspection Service (SRIJ) show that online gross gaming revenue reached €323.7m during Q1, representing a 13.7% increase from the €284.7m generated in the same period last year.
While the result fell short of the record €337.6m reported in Q4 2025, down 4.1% quarter-on-quarter, it highlights the continued strength of Portugal’s regulated online gaming sector following several years of sustained growth.
Online Casino Continues to Lead Growth
Online casino remained the dominant revenue driver, accounting for 63.1% of total market revenue during the quarter.
Casino operators generated €204.2m in revenue, marking a substantial 20.3% increase compared with Q1 2025. However, the figure was 4.6% lower than the previous quarter’s record performance.
Sports betting contributed €119.5m, representing 36.9% of total market revenue. Revenue from the vertical increased by 4% year-on-year, although it declined 3.3% compared with Q4 2025.
The figures suggest that while sports betting continues to provide a significant contribution to the market, online casino remains the primary growth engine for Portugal’s licensed operators.
Betting Activity Remains Strong
Sports betting turnover also recorded healthy growth during the quarter. Total stakes reached €587m, up 17% compared with the same period last year and 2.8% higher than the previous quarter.
Meanwhile, online casino activity remained robust, with total wagers climbing to €5.6bn. That represented a 20.7% year-on-year increase, although stakes eased by 4.7% from Q4 2025.
The latest SRIJ figures underline the resilience of Portugal’s regulated online gambling market, with both sports betting and casino continuing to attract strong player engagement despite softer quarter-on-quarter comparisons following the record-breaking final quarter of 2025.
