Chris Kamara Backs £100k Sky Bet Sports Hub in Middlesbrough
The hub is being developed on the site of the former Southlands Centre on Ormesby Road, with Middlesbrough Council leading the project in partnership with the Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation and additional backing from central government.
The Southlands Community and Sports Hub in Park End, Middlesbrough, has officially hosted its first site visit following a £100,000 grant from the Sky Bet EFL Building Foundations Fund.
The hub is being developed on the site of the former Southlands Centre on Ormesby Road, with Middlesbrough Council leading the project in partnership with the Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation and additional backing from central government.
Among those in attendance at the recent visit were former professional footballer and broadcaster Chris Kamara, Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke, Middlesbrough MP Andy McDonald, and Charlotte Dinsdale, Head of the Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation.
The Building Foundations Fund, created by Sky Bet and the English Football League, is designed to support grassroots initiatives through investment in sport, education, and wider social projects.
The new facility will be delivered in two stages. The first phase will see the construction of the hub building, alongside community meeting rooms, a social space, improved 3G and grass pitches, and new outdoor areas for sport and recreation. A second phase will deliver further facilities in due course.
