Washington's bettors now have a new option for digital betting as Fanatics Sportsbook officially launched in the nation's capital. The announcement on Thursday, September 12, marks the fifth sportsbook to enter the DC market, following major developments earlier in the week. On Tuesday, Caesars Sportsbook revealed its plan to take over GambetDC kiosks at 53 small businesses across the District.
Since the DC Council's decision in June to open the betting market, major players like Caesars and BetMGM have been able to remove geofencing restrictions, which previously limited their platforms to specific zones. Additionally, both DraftKings and FanDuel have gone live in the region.
During council hearings leading up to the market's expansion, Fanatics expressed strong interest in entering DC's competitive sports betting scene. Already operational in neighboring Maryland and Virginia, Fanatics Sportsbook now boasts a retail presence at FedExField, home of the NFL’s Washington Commanders.
Fanatics’ Historic Partnership with Washington Spirit
Fanatics Sportsbook made headlines by securing its first-ever partnership with a professional women’s sports team, the National Women’s Soccer League’s Washington Spirit. This groundbreaking deal will provide Fanatics with in-game signage at Audi Field, digital marketing opportunities, and game-day activations. Fans can also look forward to special engagement opportunities through Fanatics Sportsbook.
The platform is now available for download on both iOS and Android devices.
“As we continue to build out our sports betting business, we are excited to partner with the Washington Spirit,” said Ari Borod, Chief Business Officer at Fanatics Betting and Gaming. “We will look to grow Fanatics Sportsbook alongside the rising popularity of women’s soccer and women’s sports in general across the country.”
At this time last year, Fanatics Sportsbook was available in roughly a dozen U.S. jurisdictions. With the DC launch, the platform has now expanded to 23 markets.
